NEW YORK, NY– GDC Technology will receive the Technology Innovator of the Year Award at the CineAsia Awards Ceremony on Thursday, 8 December at the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong.

“As the leader in digital technology solutions in cinema, GDC Technology continues to help improve and grow the industry throughout the region,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “We could not have thought of a more deserving recipient of this award in 2016.”

GDC Technology started when Dr. Man-Nang Chong, founder, chairman and CEO of GDC Technology Limited, identified the potential and demand of restoring 35mm films digitally. Recognizing the industry needed to convert to digital technologies to stay ahead of the home and handheld devices, Chong founded GDC Technology in 1999 and began to provide digital media servers. Over the past 16 years, GDC Technology has become one of the world’s largest digital cinema solutions provider.

“I am deeply honored to accept this award on behalf of GDC Technology. To be recognized by industry peers for work on something as important as the cinema technology of the future is very special,” said Man-Nang Chong, founder, chairman and CEO of GDC Technology Limited. “I would like to thank the CineAsia award selection committee for recognizing and re-affirming the importance of team effort. While organizations have the power and resources to influence innovation, it’s the individuals who are the power behind GDC.  It is truly an honor to lead such a great organization of individuals who innovate and experiment, come up with new ideas and drive innovation for the advancement of the cinema industry.”

GDC was also the first to integrate, DTS:X, an object-based immersive sound technology from DTS, Inc. for the development of its media servers. DTS:X is unique amongst all the immersive formats in that it is not prescriptive. It scales to any number of speakers in any configuration. This allows exhibitors, mix stages and creatives to have complete flexibility and scalability from room to room while maintaining artistic intent and offering the best experience for any given room. Movie studios have also embraced this technology, releasing over 50 titles, from Hollywood and local Chinese, as well as co-organizing movie premieres with GDC.

Moving beyond digital cinema, GDC is also working on Virtual Reality (VR) projects. By combining stunning visuals, motion platforms and immersive sound, GDC will demonstrate its upcoming Virtual Reality experience during CineAsia 2016.
