CJ 4DPLEX Wins 2018 ShowEast “Innovator of the Year” for ScreenX

MIAMI, FLORIDA – CJ 4DPLEX (www.cj4dx.com), the world’s leading cinema technology company, announced today that the Film Expo Group has selected the company for the ShowEast “Innovator of the Year.” The organization will present the award and honor Brandon Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX America, as a part of the ShowEast Awards Ceremony on Thursday, October 25 at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

ScreenX is the world’s first multi-projection theater technology, created in 2012, to enhance the movie environment by allowing moviegoers to go beyond the frame of the traditional movie screen. It expands the center image of feature films to the left and right walls of the theatre, creating an immersive, panoramic, 270-degree experience.

ScreenX has quickly enhanced its international reach, screening local feature films and Hollywood blockbusters alike. Following the success of past releases which include Black Panther, Rampage, Ant-Man and The Wasp, The Meg, and The Nun, ScreenX will release eight titles this year, doubling the number of releases from 2017. For 2019, ScreenX is on track to release one film per month, potentially releasing up to 15 films.

From the multi-picture agreement with Warner Bros. Pictures, announced earlier this year at CinemaCon 2018, confirmed titles for the remaining 2018 line-up will be Aquaman in December and for 2019, Shazam! in April.

Remaining titles for 2018 are to be announced in the coming month.

“I am grateful to the team at the Film Expo Group to accept this award on behalf of CJ 4DPLEX, as it is a special honor to be recognized by our industry for our ScreenX technology,” said Brandon Choi, CEO of CJ 4DPLEX America. “We’ve spent many years developing ScreenX with the goal of sparking a change in the industry and to witness its growing success with exhibitors and audiences is very fulfilling and exciting. We look forward to continuing the growth of the immersive experience in 2019 and share more additional titles to be enjoyed in our format.”

“CJ 4DPLEX is a true innovator in the exhibition industry, first with their 4DX format and now with ScreenX,” said Robert Sunshine, Chairman, Film Expo Group. “ScreenX is a true game changer for exhibitors. With their recent 100 screens agreement with Cineworld Group in June at CineEurope and ever-increasing line-up release from major Hollywood studios, we felt it appropriate to bestow this year’s award to CJ 4DPLEX for that innovation.”

CJ 4DPLEX has led innovation in the exhibition industry for 9 years. CJ 4DPLEX will Showcase the ScreenX experience during ShowEast at Regal South Beach Stadium 18, Auditorium 17. Additional information about ShowEast can be found at www.showeast.com.

To date, there are 164 ScreenX auditoriums in the world, with 8 auditoriums in the U.S.

It was created in 2012 by CJ CGV, part of South Korean conglomerate CJ Group, as one of the “next cinema formats” along with 4DX, the multisensory cinema technology with motion and environmental effects. ScreenX allows moviegoers to go beyond the frame of the movie screen by expanding the center image of feature films and pre-show advertising to create an immersive, panoramic, 270-degree format that projects onto three theatre walls. To date, ScreenX has been installed in 164 screens around the world, including 84 screens in South Korea; 51 screens in China; 8 in the United States; 3 in England; 4 in Turkey; 3 in Switzerland; 2 in France; 2 in Vietnam, and 1 in Spain, Hungary, UAE, Kuwait, Thailand, Japan, and Indonesia.

CJ 4DPLEX brings 4DX auditoriums to exhibition partners along with 4DX codes for both major Hollywood blockbusters and local titles. Each auditorium incorporates motion-based seating synchronized with more than 20 different effects and optimized by a team of skilled editors, maximizing the feeling of immersion within the movie, beyond the limits of audio and video. Robert Carrady to Receive “Award of Recognition” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Robert Carrady, President of Caribbean Cinemas, will receive a “Award of Recognition” at ShowEast as a part of the International Awards Luncheon on Monday, October 22 at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel.

“ShowEast is thrilled to be able to honor Robert Carrady for his leadership in making the Caribbean a prosperous region for the movie-going experience,” said Andrew Sunshine, President of the Film Expo Group. “We would also like to take this opportunity to honor him for his integral role in rebuilding the cinema industry in Puerto Rico after the Hurricanes in 2017.”

Caribbean Cinemas is the largest theater circuit in the Caribbean with 557 screens and 66 locations in 14 territories. The company is a family business founded by Carrady’s father, Victor Carrady, in 1969 in San Juan, Puerto Rico, where the current headquarters are located.

Carrady started working for Caribbean Cinemas in 1977, upon his graduation from Tufts University. At this point Caribbean Cinemas had only 6 screens in Puerto Rico and had just opened another 6-screen theater in the Dominican Republic. Having his father as a mentor, Carrady was immersed in learning everything about the business from planning, real estate and construction, marketing, film buying and booking, and even finance. Shortly, he became an integral part of the company’s rapid and solid growth. Over time operations expanded all over Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic as well as the English speaking Caribbean Islands, and recently to other territories such as Guyana in 2015.

In 2017 the company opened a theatre in Panama and expanded to Guadeloupe. More recently in June 2018, the company departed from their culture of organic growth to the acquisition of the Cine Center chain in Bolivia, with 6 locations and 61 screens.

In September 2017 Caribbean Cinemas faced its biggest challenge ever when Hurricanes Irma and Maria caused the closure of 34 of the company’s Theatre locations in Puerto Rico, St Thomas, and St Maarten many with severe damage to its structures, interiors, air conditioning and electric systems. With Carrady’s intimate knowledge of each of these theatres, having been actively involved in all of their original developments, the company under his leadership rallied to have all locations in Puerto Rico up and operating by December 28.

With Carrady’s support Caribbean Cinemas continues to be a family enterprise with a third generation now looking for opportunities to take the company beyond the Caribbean region. Carrady is particularly proud of the company’s non-family executives and employees who have been part of the company’s history and success, some with 20, 30, and 40 years of dedicated service.
