Habib Osman to Receive “International Exhibitor of the Year Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Habib Osman, CEO and General Director of Royal Films, will receive this year’s “International Exhibitor of the Year Award” at ShowEast. Osman will be presented with this special honor as a part of the International Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, October 18 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

“ShowEast is thrilled to be able to honor Habib Osman for his remarkable work as an industry leader,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “Under his leadership and direction, Royal Films has become one of the most innovative and profitable circuits in the region. We congratulate Osman on this well-deserved honor.”

Osman was born in Barranquilla, Colombia and holds a Business Administration Degree and a Master in Finance from the Universidad del Norte. Habib has dedicated all his life to the exhibition of films and started his career in the industry at age 18 as a theater manager. Osman grew in the company to become the Chief Financial Officer, and held the position from 2001 until 2008. In 2008, Osman was promoted to Business Director and in 2010, he became the Chief Executive Officer and General Director of Royal Films.

Royal Films was founded in 1974 in Barranquilla, Colombia. Since the beginning, Royal Films dedicated its efforts to the distribution of films and operated theaters in the cities of Barranquilla and Cartagena. In 2002, Royal Films achieved its first multiplex cinema in the city of Bucaramanga. Since 2011, the company experienced its greatest growth by going from 70 to 218 screens.

Currently, Royal Films is the second largest company in ticket admissions and the first with the most physical presence in Colombia, with coverage of 43 multiplexes, 218 screens, and 35,206 seats in 27 cities. In September 2016, Royal Films began its International expansion by opening their first multiplex cinema in the City of Panama. The company currently offers VIP, Plus, and Ultra (Big Screen) Format screens, and will be opening their first 4DX in October 2016.

Licnio Manay to Receive “Career Achievement Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Licnio Manay, General Director of Manfer Films, will receive this year’s “Career Achievement Award” at ShowEast. Manay will be presented with this special honor as a part of the International Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, October 18 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

The first annual Career Achievement Award will be presented to an industry member who has made significant contributions to the industry through their accomplishments, breakthrough developments, dedication and more over the course of their career. “We are delighted to present the first Career Achievement Award to Licnio Manay for his remarkable career over the past 50 years,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “He has truly earned a reputation that now extends into the US market.”

Former CEO and founder of Manfer Films, Manay has proven executive management track record and over 50 years of experience driving sales growth in the cinematographic industry. Manay started working for 20th Century Fox Peru in 1966. In 1976, Manay was promoted to General Manager Bolivia where he was responsible for running all facets of the business operations for Warner Bros., Disney, Columbia Pictures and Fox during the toughest economic, political and social years.

Manay was also Founder and former President of the local Exhibitors and Distributors Association where he spearheaded the release of 7 of the all time top ten biggest industry records. The releases included, Captain America: Civil War, Avatar, Ice Age, Avengers, Avengers: Ultron Age and the Star Wars franchise. During his tenure, Manay also released the first 3D and Digital film in territory, Bolt. Manay has received 11 Critics Local Awards for Best Films released. Due to his remarkable experience and success in the industry, Manay’s words are always highly considered across the market when making decisions in the industry.

Marcio Fraccaroli to Receive “International Distributor of the Year Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Marcio Fraccaroli, CEO of Paris Filmes, will receive this year’s “International Distributor of the Year Award” at ShowEast. Fraccaroli will be presented with this special honor as a part of the International Awards Luncheon on Tuesday, October 18 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

“ShowEast is thrilled to honor Marcio for all he has done throughout his career as a respected and admired international distribution executive at Paris Filmes,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “He is a dedicated leader whose passion and commitment has helped distribute films in Brazil. We congratulate Marcio on this richly deserved honor.”

Fraccaroli was born in São Paulo, Brazil in 1966 and graduated from the School of Advertising and Marketing at Escola Superior de Propaganda e Marketing in Brazil. He also has a postgraduate degree from Fundação Getúlio Vargas. Fraccaroli started his career in film at age 13 when he joined Cia and worked there for 17 years. Thereafter, Fraccaroli joined Paris Filmes as Marketing Manager and later got promoted to General Manager of the company.

In 2000, he left Paris Filmes and became a partner of Imagem Filmes, local distributor of cinema, and the International AB, VHS and DVD distributor. Fraccaroli was the Commercial Director and responsible for the acquisitions of companies, both in the area of cinema as well as video and TV. In 2004, Fraccaroli returned to Paris Filmes as owner and major shareholder of the company. In 2008 Paris Filmes started performing in the market as co-producer. That move led by Fraccaroli skyrocketed the company into national prominence and set the stage for the company’s future.

Since 2004, Paris Filmes has distributed films like Saw 1 (2004), by James Wan, Saw 2 (2005), by Darren Lynn Bousman, The House of Flying Daggers (2005), by Zhang Yimou, Twilight (2008), by Catherine Hardwicke, and its sequels New Moon, Eclipse and Breaking Dawn, The King’s Speech (2010), by Tom Hooper, The Hunger Games and its sequence (2012), Now You See Me (2013), by Louis Leterrier, Now You See Me 2 (2016), by Jon M. Chu, among many others.

In 2014 Fraccaroli opened a private studio named Paris Produções that is used to make films, which is handled by the production company. Headed by Fraccaroli, the firm has produced films like Carrossel – O Filme and Carrossel 2: O Sumiço de Maria Joaquina. From 2011 to 2016, Paris Filmes has increased their market share and has been in the top 3 lists of film distributors in Brazil. In 2012 and 2013 the company had the best performance in Brazil from all distributors. Currently, Paris Filmes has 90% of market share in local productions and established a national record in the box office with Os Dez Mandamentos, a local production that brought 11 million people to the movie theaters.

Spencer Klein to Receive “Dan Fellman Show ‘E’ Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Spencer Klein, Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager of Twentieth Century Fox, will receive this year’s “Dan Fellman Show ‘E’ Award” at ShowEast. Klein will be presented with this special honor as a part of the Final Night Awards Ceremony hosted by the Coca-Cola Company on Thursday, October 20 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

The “Dan Fellman Show ‘E’ Award” formerly known as the “Show ‘E’ Award” was renamed in 2015 to honor long-time Warner Bros. Distribution Chief Dan Fellman and to celebrate his impressive 38-year career within the industry. Each year the award is presented to an industry member or company whose achievements, accomplishments, and dedication to the industry are unequalled.

“We are extremely honored to present Spencer Klein with this award at ShowEast this year. Klein’s continued dedication and commitment to advancing the movie going experience is second to none,” stated Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “For 19 years, Klein has been a leader in the industry and we congratulate him on this award.”

As Executive Vice President and General Sales Manager, Klein oversees the theatrical sales for all Fox releases in the US and Canada. Over the span of his 19-year career in the film business, Klein held positions in both exhibition and distribution. After receiving a BA from Indiana University, he began his career in film in New York City at New Line Cinema. Klein moved into exhibition at Loews Cineplex Entertainment as a film buyer, while earning his MBA from Fordham University in 2005. He then transitioned back into distribution at The Weinstein Company, initially as Eastern Division Manager, and then as General Sales Manager, overseeing sales and research.

In 2008, Klein moved back into exhibition, forming The Film Group, as Chief Film Officer representing Rave and Bow Tie Cinemas film buying teams in Dallas, TX. He relocated to Los Angeles in 2012 into his current role at Twentieth Century Fox. Klein dedicates time to various charities including Will Rogers Pioneers and The Section 16H Group, with his childhood friends from his hometown in New York.

Klein currently resides in Santa Monica with his wife and three sons.

Tim Warner to Receive “Salah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Tim Warner, former CEO of Cinemark and currently a consultant for Cinemark Holdings, Inc., will receive this year’s “Salah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award” at ShowEast. Warner will be presented with this special honor as a part of the Final Night Awards Ceremony hosted by the Coca-Cola Company on Thursday, October 20 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

Established in 1987, the Salah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award is presented each year to a company or individual in the industry that has made an impact in the philanthropic community.

“It gives me great pleasure to announce that Tim Warner is being awarded the Salah M. Hassanein Humanitarian Award at ShowEast this year,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “Tim is such a deserving person to be recognized with this honor. We could not have found a better individual to recognize at this year’s convention.”

Warner joined Cinemark in 1996 as Senior Vice President and President of Cinemark International. He led Cinemark’s efforts to build its international operations for over 10 years primarily in Mexico, Central and South America establishing operations and management teams throughout the region. Today, Cinemark International is one of the leading exhibition companies in Latin America with 1278 screens and 178 theatres. He currently serves as a consultant to the management team of Cinemark Holdings, Inc., headquartered in Plano, Texas to insure a seamless transition to the next generation of Cinemark leadership. Prior to his consultancy, Warner served as Executive Vice Chairman of the Board until April 2016.

From 2006 to 2011, Warner served as President and COO of Cinemark. In January of 2012, Warner became the Chief Executive Officer and Board Member in 2014 to lead the company’s efforts in becoming the number one attended theatrical exhibition company in the world. He stepped down as the CEO in August of 2015 to become Vice Chairman of the Board. Today with his leadership, Cinemark is one of the leading exhibition companies in the world, operating 504 theatres, with 5794 screens in 14 countries.

Throughout his career, Warner has been active in several industry organizations including NATO, Variety, and Will Rogers and has been a featured speaker in industry conferences throughout the world. Warner’s unique career has led him from a small regional exhibitor in the U.S., working as the head of California Trade Association, to heading up the industry convention as the industry was transitioning to a global platform and the honor of heading up one of the leading exhibition company’s, Cinemark, and teams in the world.

As head of Cinemark, Warner had the honor of leading the team that raised millions of dollars for the Variety Children’s Charity, via the industry Gold Heart Campaign, and for Will Rogers and substantial funds for the Pioneers effort. In addition to these efforts, through Cinemark’s annual charity golf tournament, the company raised hundred of thousands of dollars each year for Food Banks and a Variety of Charities that serve the various communities where they operate theatres throughout the United States.

Warner is a proud graduate of Western Montana University and resides in Dallas with his wife Winifred (Windy) Warner.

James Schamus to Receive “Bingham Ray Spirit Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Award-winning Screenwriter, Executive, Filmmaker and Producer James Schamus will be honored with this year’s “Bingham Ray Spirit Award” at ShowEast. Schamus will be presented with this special honor as a part of the Final Night Awards Ceremony hosted by the Coca-Cola Company on Thursday, October 20 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

The Bingham Ray Spirit Award was established in 2012 in honor of the late Bingham Ray, one of the most beloved people in the independent film world. Each year, the award is bestowed up an individual who has shown exemplary foresight and creativity in the world of independent film.

“It is with great pleasure that ShowEast will honor James Schamus with the Bingham Ray Spirit Award,” stated Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “In the world of independent film, there are very few who are more knowledgeable and passionate about film than James. We congratulate James on this very well deserved honor.”

“In the course of the first half of my career, Bingham Ray was many things to me – role model, mentor, business partner, and, later, friend, but even then he was already one constant: a true man of the cinema. It’s beyond an honor to be receiving this award,” said James Schamus.

Schamus is the former CEO of Focus Features, the motion picture production, financing, and worldwide distribution company whose films have included Moonrise KingdomMilkEternal Sunshine of the Spotless MindThe Kids are All RightThe PianistCoraline, and The Dallas Buyers Club. Schamus is also a screenwriter and producer and is known for his work on The Ice Storm and Brokeback Mountain. Schamus’s feature directorial debut is an adaptation of Philip Roth’s Indignation, starring Logan Lerman, Sarah Gadon and Tracy Letts, which premiered at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival and the Berlin Film Festival. Roadside Attractions will release Indignation on July 29, 2016. Schamus also recently directed the short documentary That Film About Money.

Schamus is a Professor of Professional Practice in Columbia University’s School of the Arts, where he teaches film history and theory. Additionally, Schamus is the author of Carl Theodor Dreyer’s Gertrud: The Moving Word, published by the University of Washington Press. Schamus earned his BA, MA, and Ph.D. in English from the University of California, Berkeley.

Robert Bagby to Receive “Al Shapiro Distinguished Service Award” at ShowEast

NEW YORK, NY – Robert Bagby, President & CEO of B&B Theatres, will receive this year’s “Al Shapiro Distinguished Service Award” at ShowEast. Bagby will be presented with this special honor as a part of the Final Night Awards Ceremony hosted by the Coca-Cola Company on Thursday, October 20 at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach.

Each year, the Al Shapiro Distinguished Service Award honors a person who represents the ideals and standards that the late Al Shapiro set during his unparalleled career. The award epitomizes his dedication, care and concern for the betterment of people within the motion picture industry.

“We could not have chosen a more deserving individual to recognize with this year’s Al Shapiro Award,” said Andrew Sunshine, Vice President of The Film Expo Group. “Bob is a family man and a well respected leader at B&B and his dedication and hard work to not only his circuit, but the entire film industry is to be commended and celebrated.”

Bagby was born into the movie business and spent his youth working every aspect of the exhibition industry. Upon graduating from Kansas State University in 1979 with a B.S. in Business Administration and Accounting, Bagby assumed the helm of the family’s growing theater chain as CEO in 1980, combining his own unique style of employee-centric management with the tried-and-true traditions of his father Sterling Bagby and his father-in-law Elmer Bills, Jr.

Since he took on the role of CEO in 1980, Bagby led the circuit from a small, regional 17-screen circuit into the 9th largest circuit in North America, currently operating 50 locations and 407 screens. Bagby and Bridget, his wife of 36 years, who is also the child of theater pioneers, represent the third generation of ownership in the family company that dates back to 1924. Bagby and Bridget have three adult children in the business who plan to take the company into the fourth generation.

In addition to his significant responsibilities at B&B Theatres, Bagby has served as President of the National Association of Theatres Owners of Kansas & Missouri and is currently on the Convention Committee for CinemaCon, the largest industry convention in the world.

Bagby was also instrumental in bringing the Show-A-Rama convention back to life in Kansas City in 2013. Bagby and B&B are also stalwart and committed supporters of Variety: The Children’s Charity, a nationwide organization benefitting disabled or underprivileged children all over the country.

Bagby was an original board member of Freedom House and held the kick-off event at the Liberty Cinema that helped raise over a million dollars. Bagby also recently co-chaired his church building committee which raised over three million dollars. Bagby feels blessed to enjoy such overlap between business and family, and is optimistic and enthusiastic for the future of B&B Theatres. And with three grandchildren to his name, the fifth generation of B&B leadership may already be up-and-coming!
